“As a trio we stick to our preferences of playing my own compositions on the one hand and improvising freely on the other hand,” says Kadel. On their new album they immersed deeper into this mixture and thus broadened its range audibly: “This time we have very different moods and sounds. We explored heights and depths and re-orientated ourselves repeatedly in this context.”
On their new album they immersed deeper into this mixture and thus broadened its range audibly: “This time we have very different moods and sounds. We explored heights and depths and re-orientated ourselves repeatedly in this context.” For Julia Kadel and her bandmates the outstanding compositions constitute sounds that are developed from images and situations. The album’s opener, for example, is entitled “Hero”. “Aquite a pathetic title,” Julia Kadel admits. “But to me ‘hero’ is somehow a short, strong word which - and I find this intriguing - is rarely used in everyday speech. It is almost as if there were no more heroes. But for me they definitely still exist!”
On the new album you’ll get an idea of how the Julia Kadel Trio interacts with its audience because some of the tracks have been recorded in front of a small audience. “We wanted to produce a studio album, but at the same time have an audience to push us forward the way it happens at our concerts. We really enjoy this!”
